Plain and simple, as implemented it is not a tool for blocking or annoyance reduction but rather a tool of censorship.

The feature allows an individual user to create a discussion and then prevent a specific set of people from participating in that discussion. This is censorship of the de-platforming variety. A user could go to a sub, block the sub owner and create a post that the owner of the sub could not comment in... leaving the sub owner the only options of ban and delete. i.e - the only response to the censorship would to be to escalate with MORE censorship.

Online harassment is real and we do need tools to prevent it... but this feature was way better when it only hid posts from blocked users in your feed and auto-collapsed their comments in posts.

Now that I see how this works I feel that even the sub owner/mod tools of banning go too far. I think banning should only hide content by default in a sub, not prevent it. When posts are deleted they should not disappear entirely but rather go to a 'trash can' that can still be viewed/searched if a user chooses.

It's rare for me to really care about anything on the internet. But this is far too offensive to ignore.

The block feature or my comment?

Haha the block feature obviously. I agree with your comment. That's why I made this post.

People come to this site to avoid the faggotry that comes with using facebook or reddit, but at least those sites have an excuse... They have investors and constant lawsuits being thrown at them over reviews or posts. When you get banned there, you're banned by the site, and there's a reason for it. Logically I can't really be mad about it.

This shit here though... it hits different. There wasn't a problem with the block feature before. This is no longer a block feature.
