I'm not talking a reductio ad absurdum, I'm talking about reducing words as a whole to only the essentials. The same thing can always be said with far less words, but most people choose to use more, to look more intelligent (it isn't). However, intentionally expanding prose creates opening for confusion and manipulation, so the opposite is kikey; literal literary pilpul.
Expanding one's vocabulary goes a long way to creating effective and shorter sentences.
