I once "barely watched TV" too. I never realized how insidious the brainwashing was until I stopped altogether. For me it was easy: the FCC switched to digital broadcasting in 2009, and I wasn't interesting in converting my 13" TV to digital or getting a new set, as I was already mostly internet surfing full-time.
After several months "unplugged", I see these folks online arguing in a chat room about some retarded political news story, and that's when it hit me: these people are fucking zombies, they would never think to care one iota about such a story except they were living the TV-matrix zombie illusion. Prior to quitting TV altogether, my default position towards political debates would presume the debaters were passionate about politics and probably knew more about the story for having read about in the papers or on TV, but once the TV-brainwashing wears off, it's like putting on those glasses in "They Live", and it becomes clear that everyone around you is doing NOTHING but regurgitating lines from the TV or debating issues straight from the TV, and rarely-to-never otherwise.
The brainwashing has gone from bad to worse. Tokyo Rose would blush hearing today's fake TV news & gay-faggots on every last TV show.
I'm looking forward to the day when people just take DSLRs and make their own TV shows and Hollywood tanks
