Got up early and jumped in the car while it was still dark. Had to wear a winter coat. There was ice outside. Drove east on 44 to I-95 south and headed towards Miami. Turned on the AM radio. T minus 30 seconds and counting. Pulled over on the shoulder at Mims. Many, many other cars pulled over, too. For about 45 seconds, I watched the most amazing thing anyone has ever witnessed.
...and then she exploded right in front of my eyes.
I lowered the Kodak 110 camera, mouth agape, and turned to the wife and said, "We just saw 7 people die in front of us."
That "Y"-shaped cloud hung over us for hours in that cold blue central Florida sky.
