Buy a door mat to wipe your shoes before you go inside. If I've been walking thru mud I'll take them off, but I have always worn shoes inside. We had neighbors that always gave me shit about taking my shoes off, until I pointed out that their kids run around outside barefoot, and their 8 year old was on their carpet with dog shit between his toes. We weren't friends for long.
