Presumably a lot of these archaeologists are men of religion. I would venture to guess all religions forbid desecrating graves. Even if that's not the case or a person is not religious it seems wrong to do. Egyptians went through a hell of a lot of work to place these bodies where they rest and that should be respected. They should be left alone.

What irritates me is the fact that the Ancient Egypt had to move so many to the valley of the kings in the first place and how much history was destroyed or sold in the process. At least those in charge now are trying to preserve history and decipher it. Did you ever see that episode of a program with amature Egyptologists and one of the females pissed off Zahi Hawass because she couldn't hold in her piss and accidentally pissee in one of the pyramids. Nonetheless I agree with your sentiment and unfortunately tomb raiders were a thing millenia before Egyptology became a field. How much history has been destroyed in the name of greed. How many pages have been forever destroyed.

Most of the really interesting stuff is probably tucked away in private collections. Stuff that could answer a lot of questions.

I agree and I am actually surprised that Egypt more less being a muslim country now hasn't done more to destroy the pyramids like they did them giant Buddha statues in Iran I believe.
