anywhere between 16 and 20 inch... longer is for longer shots.
i don't know what's the most common in USA... i think 5.56 is the military caliber which is slightly higher pressure.
in Aus everyone has 223.

if you're in the country get a 20 inch barrel... if you're in a shithole get a 14-18 inch so you can swing it quicker.
if 556 is the most available ammo, get the 556 chamber... i think 556 can shoot 223 but not the other way around.
i don't care here because 223 kicks arse as it is.
