That's what we thought too - until dimmers were installed. Now we love them. You do have to buy the "warm" color spectrum and make sure they are dimmable. Where dimmers are not possible, go for the Edison low wattage type. LED bulb designs are getting much better quite quickly and beat the heck out of those curly innard monstrosities foisted on the public a few years back. Of course, if you need heat output you're fucked.
