We can all see the restrictions on free travel coming. The easiest way to accomplish this is using the shutdown feature built in to all cars and trucks since 2004. Motorcycles don’t have such a feature.

If there’s traffic, you can skirt it. If the only way to escape your neighborhood or city is via a small path, you can take it.

And if the SHTF, you can GTFO a lot faster on a motorbike - especially a dual-sport (which can more easily traverse non-pavement roads).

My recommendation is to get something small to medium sized. In the case of emergency, speed won’t be your biggest concern. If you can handle one, sure, a 1200cc BMW is great. But for most people, a Honda 450 or 650 will do just fine and be plenty enough to carry two people and some gear.

Highways are, in many ways, open fields.

Open fields are deadly in a civil conflict.

See Bosnia for details.

But yes, in a pinch, some transport is better than none. Just be sure you have no other options before you go riding. Better to have it and not need it, yes, but also, better to be safe than dead.
