You're looking at it the wrong way. Having freedom of speech is winning. It's good to see how your enemy thinks, and you can't do that if they're silenced. Why do you think the left always gets crushed in debates? They have no practice doing it. They just try to shut down. That will work for people who are already on their side, but it doesn't work for thinking people.
