I have been misery about this for years. I always had some near top of the line machine for work, so i said meh, i'll get to it. I was extended for a work from home (thank God) until July 2021. I have been limping along on my old i3 (4th gen) laptop for about 8 months. With another 8 months ahead I said, ok fine, I'll build something.

AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen 7 3700x

Corsair 16GB (8GBx2) 3.0 GHz RAM

ASUS Tuf Gaming 570x motherboard

750W PS

Viper - X Radeon R9 200 video card 2GB (used ~180 bucks)

2 LG 24inch'ers

and 512 solidstate.

Feels good to enter a new era. I really REALLLY needed to do this.

So I didn't want to use the video card and spent a couple hours trouble shooting my Q-LED codes. Kept getting stuck on VGA. Well, i was stupid and forgot to check if the CPU even had support for internal graphics. Spoiler alert, it didn't. Kids, double check your build and don't be like me and waste time on silly stuff like "Why wont my video turn on" when your CPU doesn't even support video....

Similar build to mine.

R7 3800x

ASUS TUF-X570-PLUS wifi

Corsair 32GB (16x2)

EVGA 2080S

M.2 1TB as system drive... too much storage to list.

It does feel good. I had a 3570k for the longest time prior.

How do you like the Radeon? I'm still worried about trying their video cards.

Its ok. I don't hardly game much so my monitoring tools are telling me I am using less than 5% of it with my regular working day stuff

Nice.

If you're just using it for office work and web browsing. That build should last you awhile.

I play some indie games. I need to get a high RPM HDD because I know I'll burn out the SSD. I've burnt at least 4 of those in my career, and when they go, they go all the way.
