You are right but there is way more farm-able land in the mid west than that. Also we currently crowd people in to spaces much much smaller than that with modern cities. We don't have a population problem we have a stupid people problem.

I'm not sure Eugenics is the answer but I would agree with your analysis of the problem. At least in part. However my solution would be just slightly different.
