I've been using the same sync account for years and that and my about:config were fucked from years of playing around and I finally got sick of it. I first tried to reset all the modified preferences in about:config. No change. THen I searched and searched and found something I didn't know about. In the url you type about:support and there is a refresh button for waterfox and a reset button for firefox. I click that and my preference were all reset. Then I realized if I was to sync my account in a new linux distribution all the shit would come back. I went to the mozilla accounts sign in page and deleted my account. I then restarted my browser and made a new account with the same username and password, my autofill did all the work for me and now I have the same account with all my data except for my old preferences. I'm finding my browser is now really faster and stuff like the more button here did not work in the top right panel on this site and now it works fine. It was the first thing I checked when I came here to see what would happen.

Glad you found a fix, and thanks for sharing it.

I figured if it was driving me nuts then someone else that does not have search skills like me might have had the problem for quite a while and just gave up trying so I found the need to help them get rid of their stress also. It's the nice thing to do.
