Denying the Holocaust becomes illegal
Sweden’s hate crimes laws have been tightened up to specifically include Holocaust denial among the offences as of July 1st. The country’s freedom of press constitution is also set to undergo the same changes, but they won’t come into effect until January 1st, 2027.
Update: It's bad really bad, but actually not quite as bad as I thought:
The law:
Whoever, in a statement or in another message that is disseminated, incites violence against, threatens or expresses contempt for a group of people, another such group of persons or an individual in any of these groups with reference to race, colour, national or ethnic origin , creed, sexual orientation or gender-crossing identity or expression, is sentenced for incitement against a ethnic group to imprisonment for a maximum of two years.
This is the paragraph that was just added to the law today:
Anyone who, in a statement or in another message that is disseminated, denies, excuses or obviously belittles a crime that constitutes or amounts to genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes or crimes of aggression according to a decision that has been issued by a Swedish court, or by a recognized international court for crimes against international law and which has received legal force, is also convicted of incitement against a ethnic group if the act is aimed to incite violence against, threaten or express disrespect for such a group or individual as referred to in the first paragraph.
Then it continues:
If the crime is minor, minor incitement against a group of people is sentenced to a fine.
If the crime is serious, serious incitement against a group of people is sentenced to imprisonment for a minimum of six months and a maximum of four years. When assessing whether the crime is serious, particular consideration must be given to whether the message had a particularly threatening or offensive content and was distributed to a large number of people in a way that was likely to attract significant attention.
Sounds like holocaust truths are still allowed unless simultaneously disrepecting das juden??
