I'm curious to hear from other people who are either living abroad, or have considered doing so. I have been working on a backup contingency and I think I'm in a pretty good place to unplug from the machine. Of course there are other Americans here for other reasons but I've always wanted to meet people who are doing this for similar reasons as mine. Here land is cheap, and the country is probably 100 years behind USA as far as the overall system. But the land part is the most appealing aspect here for me. It is cheap, very fertile, with yearlong growing season, no property tax, and no indication that the government would ever try to take it from you. In fact I do believe that this place would be ideal for self sufficiency/survival. Of course it is not perfect by any means, I do have enough complaints.. My main goal is to get on some land here and build something to live and survive, grow and raise my food, etc.. There are so many reasons why I believe it to be more feasable/possible here. For one, there is no need for a huge income here and no need for constant consumption. Aside from all of that, one of my biggest frustrations here is, finding like minded people to work with. Anyway, share your thoughts...
I assume some might accuse me of "tuck and run". I'm no pussy, I haven't given up on my country, I'm a veteran also, but lets just say that we all have our individual experiences, abilities, resources, etc.. With my insight and experience, I believe this to be a very reasonable course of action. And its just a safety backup the way I see it. I am leveraging my resources to eventually be able to rebuild my life to the best I can in my own country...
