@zacchaeus minor thought, but hey. outward visual design. old computers, old phones, old cars, like stuff when it was first released in its first identifiable form. victorian era tech, 1980s computer tech. things like that. they were blocky and square and had wood panel decor to make them look like furniture. the guts were big and clunky, but you could take them apart and poke around in there, see how they tick.
modern cars and modern computer things are now real slim and sleek and silver. woodpanel and buff gray are gone, now it's sleek, shiny chrome. you can still void the warranty and open them up and clean them out and put them back together.
the OUTSIDES changed. and "cash for clunkers" was to DESTROY perfectly good, nice old cars, phase out old cars, and replace them with ones with weird creepy computer shit that doesn't work right. out with the analog that you could pick apart, in with the weird mysterious black box stuff.
but sometimes, while the outsides are different, are the insides really THAT different? hard to put into words, i'm far from a smart computery person. but i wonder.
Its a really good topic
What tech is fake side techs that are more complex than they need to be in order to obscure whats going on? How important is the look? Probably really important. Aestetics.
Does anyone actually know how a computer works? My computer science professor sure didnt.
reminds me of a past discussion we had, about how electricians learn to use the things that are already here.... but don't know how to make them from scratch.
edit: or wait did we have that convo? i didn't sleep, and i'm rattly. visit you know where to read up on why.
