DUMB BUSINESS PRACTICES, may 2019
P: so sometimes people kinda ponder about why things be like they do. an example that comes to mind a lot, is the movie industry, which is all about getting butts into seats, not taking risks, and it's a very very expensive business that only particular trannies can get nepotism'd into. moviemakers that go down in history and leave a mark, are few and far between. yet look at all the hacks with all the MILLIONS of dollars to blow, with whole teams and crews, to make trash.
P: found this little exchange regarding the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie:
P: M: This is an origin movie, they're planning on more of them.
P: M: Granted though this is the equivalent of the pokemon movie having an origin of the US Army creating Arceus and it escaping to another dimension to create all the pokemon with the help of Chris Pratt and Jeff Goldblum
P: M: The reason why they wanted the army in this movie is because military shit sells in China it's the reason why the Transformers movies did as well as they did over there, they want to mimic shit beat for beat in terms of appearance. If it was just the local police chase Sonic around it would have no appeal to them. Remember Alvin and the Chipmunks made enough to warrent a Trilogy and a soon to be greenlit reboot, the smurfs are getting another film, and I want to know who needs to get their dick blown in Hollywood so the people who made Lasagna Cat can take the film rights to garfield before 2020 when the next film is set to be released where Garfield Runs For President(BAD ORANGE CAT).
P: B: Once you realize how much of what modern Hollywood does is to pander to the Chinese audience, everything makes so much more sense. It's a little funny when you start to notice all the Chinese characters in prominent roles in random wannabe blockbuster schlock like The Meg.
P: people have noticed that Hollywood's been remaking and remaking tons of stuff for a decade by now, or longer. and 90's nostalgia has been real big. a super common trend with movies is,
P: - get the rights to some nostalgic thing, probably 80s or 90s, make some ultra-realistic, highly rendered, creepy CGI thing
P: - get some dweeby main actor in normie land, like some martin dweeb, and he keeps the smurfs as pets or something.
P: - the story doesn't take place in smurf land, or garfield land, it takes place in the city, and the dweeb lead has a really specific job like marketing director, and how does he pay rent in a place like that? he's struggling, but super rich.
P: - also some strat girlfriend thing
P: obviously i don't see movies like these, but these are what people say about them. i think i'm forgetting a ton of stuff, but what sticks out to me is.
P: specific, particular formulas and rigid trends are worth dissecting. like memes. what's going on with this rigid structures and patterns?
H: Memes are huuuuge. I guess they used to call them tropes?
H: Creating original work is HARD. Copying / altering / borrowing is EASY.
H: Think of computer science.
H: Back in the begining the coders needed to really know what they were doing and do it well.
H: Now a days they frankenstein code everything together and nothing works right or is original its mostly knockoffs, sequels, and nostalgia farming.
H: BLOATWARE. whats the film equivalent? Shitty knock off movies?
H: bloatware vs something like original microsoft excel
H: 'random' rom com vs something actually original and well made
P: who tf is the audience for rom coms. i NEVER hear a single nice thing about them, or these infinity zillion creepy mega-CGI 90's nostalgia fever dream abomination movies. (which i've never seen, i don't need nightmares, thanks) (urgh so creeeeepppyyy)
P: the only cgi nostalgia bait movies people say nice things about, are the cartoony straight to DVD releases, like some smurfette movie or maya the bee or something like that. which you never hear about, you just see them listed on streaming sites.
H: One thing too.. theres just SOOOOO MANY movies and TV shows. And everyone just assumes it's all normal. Why havent a big group of people gotten together yet to say, ya this tv and movie thing just isnt for us, we dont want to be a part of your black box reality. Peace out.
H: To expand on my previous point. Tv and movies are just assumed to be a part of everyones reality. They even show us oogabooga tribes with one community tv.
H: Theres not a single country out there that is like, naaaah, we just dont do film or tv.
P: even the most tiny studio, no-budget film productions are tranny shit, all the way to the very bottom. th emost obscure, shoestring productions are tranny tranny tranny.
