As a young Marine going through jungle training and later advanced jungle training in 1971, I first heard stories about the rock apes of Viet Nam. All of the Seargeants teaching these classes were Viet Nam veterans and many of them had stories involving the rock apes. Some stories were second hand, but many were first hand stories including rock throwing and rare physical attacks with sticks. Some actually told of the apes being killed and told of examining the "very human like" hairy bodies. While I did believe some of these stories, some, not so much. I guess that there is some truth to the stories, but I will never know how much.
