Well the bright side of the story, is generally the old prison guard structure had been destroyed / compromised. Apparently they were using some type of deep electromagnetic technology that cancel-waves the memory. And that technically, once we break free of the memory wipe stuff, we can regenerate / remember our older eternal personalities & imaginative abilities Pretty interesting take. Not a fear-based tale. The closest piece of fiction I've found that resonates with it is "The Quantum Theif" series of books. Also a great read!
