This is a crazy story!
He claimed his preacher (at a church called “The Alter”) was secretly a lizard person with secret lizard healing abilities.
No one believed him.
So he shot him 17 times to kill him.
The preacher lived through it.
He healed and is currently alive. So
Where do you see 17? I see 6
It was from memory from my interest in the story a long while ago.

Odom might be a little fuzzy on the details here - it seems that he shot Remington eight times*, including in the head and the lung. But strangely enough he does have a point; that's an awful lot of punishment for a human body to survive.
And this may be just encouraging words from loved ones, but it sounds like Remington was doing almost shockingly well shortly after the shooting.
