Are you looking at a landscape oriented photo and turning it vertical?

I'm looking at what the live camera feed is seeing, it gets narrower when it's vertically aligned

And that’s just you. You put it in landscape because YOU are more likely to view it in landscape on your desktop. Someone intentionally creating content to be viewed on a phone

No, that's just the optimum format for humans. and no I don't go and view it on a desktop, I look at it on my phone, but I turn the camera sideways. Otherwise I'd be squinting at a square postage stamp with wasted space at the sides

Why would anyone record anything in a non optimal format, just to save themselves the effort of turning a phone 90deg?

Some vertical formats actually make sense, like viewing a PDF on a vertical monitor, or writing code, and maybe a data logger or event log and I've actually run out of ideas here? essentially nothing else is better viewed in a vertical orientation and films are at the bottom of that list of possibilities

Of course it gets narrower lmao, are you fucking retarded? It also gets TALLER. The pixels in the periphery simply move from left-right to up-down. An iPad also has a much different aspect ratio than an iPhone.

This literally only happens if you take a vertical photo and then view it in landscape, like on a computer. There is no postage stamp sized vertical photo with wasted side space when the phone is held vertically

Why would anyone record anything in a non optimal format, just to save themselves the effort of turning a phone 90deg?

Why would anyone record anything in landscape when it only benefits 8% of their viewership who watch on desktop? Films and cinema are different, because the vast majority will be watching on movie screens or wide screen TVs. YouTube shorts are watched predominantly on phones

My stance is that you’re not losing anything by changing the periphery to the top and bottom rather than the left or right

these statements conflict

An iPad also has a much different aspect ratio than an iPhone.

which is another reason why you shouldn't bother to cater to any specific orientation, but just to use the format that best fits human vision

Why would anyone record anything in landscape when it only benefits 8% of their viewership who watch on desktop?

because eyeballs are horizontal and designed for a wide field of vision, the receptors at the sides even evolved to better detect movement. it's aesthetically superior, and aesthetics trump the trauma and emotional distress of having to turn your phone 90deg

I've guessing you are 12 and watch tiktok to train your brain into forgetting what you just watched 30 seconds ago?

No. They don’t. An iPhone has about 600,000 pixels. Not a single pixel is lost when you rotate the phone, they’re just in a different space of your field of view. Both of those statements describe this

which is another reason why you shouldn't bother to cater to any specific orientation, but just to use the format that best fits human vision

The percentage of iPad users is significantly smaller than even desktop users, and still are mostly held vertically unless attached to a keyboard

it's aesthetically superior, and aesthetics trump the trauma and emotional distress of having to turn your phone 90deg

You say that, but the reality is that that’s just your preference, because that’s what you’re used to. The explosion of vertical-only platforms is proof that absolutely the majority of people prefer not to turn their phone versus have an ideal aspect for viewing on a desktop

I've guessing you are 12 and watch tiktok to train your brain into forgetting what you just watched 30 seconds ago?

Not even close, I’m just not some crotchety fart who can’t accept that things change and would rather complain about how things are different now than they were when I was a kid. If you did most of your browsing on your phone, like most people do these days, then you wouldn’t have anything to complain about. You only complain because you’re stuck in your PcMaStErRaCE phase and refuse to move on from a style that’s going virtually obsolete from leisure use
