Mitochondria are weird - they generate the energy in our cells but they aren't actually human. Billions of years ago they inserted themselves into our proto cells and found that we offer protection, food and warmth, we found that they generate energy for us efficiency. It's s symbiotic relationship and we have evolved together all this time. Isn't that amazing!
