The inner light.

This episode left me a bit down and a bit philosophic. However, Devils due is another favorite but on the fun side.

It is a sad episode, Captain Picard got mind-raped by an alien probe from a dead civilization that shoved an entire alien lifetime of memories into his brain. Between that and becoming Locutus for a while, it's no wonder that he's a sad broken old wreck of himself in his own series "Picard."

Is "picard" any good?

Very similar to There’s No Place Like Springfield from G.I. Joe where Shipwreck is convinced he has a wife and daughter and left the Joes because he was responsible for the death of Lady Jaye.

The episode was particularly poignant to kids at the time because they utilized shipwreck, the irresponsible, reckless womanizer, gave him a family and then ripped them away from him in heartbreaking fashion. To make it worse the wife character was based on a character from an earlier episode that he had fallen in love with but did not end up with. When you’re a kid, that was pretty heavy stuff.

It was mind blowing to kids at the time and is almost beat for beat the same major plot points of this ST:TNG episode that came out years later.

The Joe episode was inspired by another older source if I recall correctly.

Two good episodes of two good (and entirely different) shows.

The two-part episode Worlds Without End was also very good, and showed the G.I. Joe team confronting an alternate universe where they were all dead (except for a few MIA Joes that they never specified) and had lost the war against Cobra. Some of them came across the bodies at of their own counterparts at one point, killed in a Cobra experiment. Those three Joe’s ended up staying in the alternate universe to try and turn the tide against Cobra instead of going home. Good stuff when you’re a kid.

This & The Measure of a Man (imdb.com) stand out as some of the greatest science fiction ever produced, in my opinion.

Oh my goodness, that was a powerful episode and was Picard at his finest.

All other motivations aside, Far Beyond the Stars (imdb.com) (DS9) made a good case for the point of sci-fi writing. The recent legacy of Star Trek as a TV series is lack luster at best, but at its best it offers some insight into humanity.

Good point but that episode was a leap out of the the Star Trek universe that I didn’t really care for. It was well written and well done by Avery Brooks. But not my cup of tea. DS9 was on the edge of what was Star Trek, I enjoyed I but…

Just by the thumbnail I know that is the episode of Picard living an entire lifetime as a member of a now-extinct civilization in just mere minutes due to a probe the civilization left in orbit to inform visitors that they once existed and of what happened to them.

That was a good story.

For me, the most sad episode of a Trek show was the one on "Voyager" where Neelix and Tuvok were in a transporter accident and temporarily became Tuvix. It was sad that Tuvix had to die, and was forced to die against his will, in order that Tuvok and Neelix could live again.

The TNG episode "The Offspring" was also terribly sad.

Many aspects of Voyager irritated me as I watched it when it was airing without understanding why, but that episode with Tuvix didn't make me sad when it aired; it pissed me off.

That show regularly irked me as I watched it while it aired, but I wasn't exactly sure of why most of the time. After I became aware of the propaganda in everything and also discovered the name of the group behind it all and their reason for pushing the propaganda agenda, I re-watched the whole series and found why it often irked me so much. Now that entire show just straight up pisses me off, though part of that is directed at myself for not fully seeing the kiked aspects at the time for what they were.

And it only got worse from there. I think the motto of the Enterprise series was "infinite diversity, in infinite combinations." Pretty on the, ahem, nose.

Viewing through innocent eyes, the series is excellent. The good news is nobody was fooled by the propaganda. Knowing the extent of the propaganda infused in the series ruins it for any and level headed person. I have never watched it again.

Don’t remember it but will watch “the offspring” if I cry I’m coming to kick your arse. /s

Enterprise - Similitude is another great episode you should watch. Definitely in the top 10.
