It's the fastest human object ever made.

At closest approach, Parker Solar Probe hurtles around the Sun at approximately 430,000 mph (700,000 kph).

That's fast enough to get from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., in one second.

To perform its unprecedented investigations, the Parker Solar Probe and its instruments are protected from the Sun by a 4.5-inch-thick (11.43 cm) carbon-composite shield, which can withstand temperatures reaching nearly 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit (1,377 Celsius).

At the Sun's surface, the sound is estimated to be around 290 decibels, which is an incredibly high and dangerous level.

Cause: This extreme loudness is due to the violent nuclear reactions and the constant movement of plasma on its surface

That title bro...

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Did I mess up something again?

It doesn't really make sense to me. Saying that something happened when it "got so close" makes me expect that there's going to be an explanation of what happened. The sentence trails off into "than ever" which really doesn't attach to anything. Than ever what?

Watching the video, I'd say "When the Parker Solar Probe got so close to the sun it was able to hear it's sounds" or something along those lines.

Than ever what?

Than previous probes ever sent towards the sun.

  • "When the Parker Solar Probe got closer to the sun than ever before, it was able to hear its sounds."
  • "When the Parker Solar Probe got its closest distance to the sun yet, it was able to hear its sounds."
  • "When the Parker Solar Probe got closer to the sun than any probe has before, it was able to hear its sounds."

Those seem pretty good.

The trippy part is that while a heat shield is absolutely neccessary, on the shielded side, temps are down close to water freezing again because heat is hard to transfer without an atmosphere

Exactly! It can only dissipate through thermal radiation into the cold void.

If this is real, it's really fucking scary.

And cool.

Thanks for posting this.

But that title. Ow.

But that title. Ow.

That's what she said.
