I would think a couple of successful dry runs to the moon are in order to test/prove all of the newly developed equipment first. Maybe Elon should be on that first mission to Mars if he is so confident. Reminds me of a story about a Billionaire and his private deep water sub a couple of years ago...

private deep water sub

lol I member that carbon fiber toilet paper cardboard tube.

Moon is a much better launch platform than Earth with its gravity well.

They can't even get an astronaut past the outer Van Allen belts around the earth.

I think they'll die trying.

I assume the first few attempts will be un-manned. The other thing is that the landing module will have to double as a living space after landing unless they have some brilliant plans on how to build a base before humans even show up.

Yes, they have modules they'll send first. It's the 2 years in a radiation filled, gravity less environment that will be very difficult on the human body.

I was reading something the other day about attempting to build a space station out of multiple starship modules then having it auto-rotate to generate gravity. Seems like a interesting idea and when you want a new module you just add it or replace a existing one and land the old one back on earth for service.

Not related to the mars mission but still a interesting idea.

How about you go fuck your face, Elon.

i'll bet my ass that we never make it to mars... i'm sure that we could, but there are too many people who want to cash in on what we have going on down here to be of any use. or, only the ultra wealthy will being going, while the rest of us are stuck here on this dumpster fire.

Another distraction in the same form of original space program. Going to mars does nothing for us here on earth. All these fucking problems on earth and everyone thinking this is anything but a timesink and a moneysink with ulterior motives is retarded.
