Add in the fact it's an 8 month flight with rocket technology, you'd need multiple ships to carry fuel, food, materials and avoid cabin fever.
I always am fascinated how humans cannot make Earth work, yet we talk about spending trillions of dollars the US doesn't have on a ridiculous plan that would make the submersible incident look like a family picnic in a nice park on a sunny, summer afternoon.
It's definitely the next logical step for humanity but definitely not now..
You're right we have so much shit to work out here first and we can't even reliably get people materials out of the atmosphere.
Also the radiation from Van Allen Belts and all that jazz is something that has to be considered. Leaving Earth and entering Mars.
