The amount of potential energy at full rotation speed is absurd. Anything breaking off becomes a tremendously catastrophic failure. Any mistake or oversight. Even on the metal to metal composition of a single screw that then breaks off under a 1000 g load.

I completely agree. But that's basically full scale rocketry. You don't declare, "that was awesome", when it fails underneath you. It's extremely powerful and terrifying. We're simply more accustomed to continuous explosions at the end of a pointy stick with men on the top.
