Ok so serious question for all of you cosmology nerds out there…

Cosmologists say that the universe is expanding and we can verify this because of the redshift of galaxies.

My question is this: if our galaxy were falling into a singularity, wouldn’t other galaxies appear to be moving away from the Milky Way faster? How could we tell the difference between an expanding universe and our galaxy falling into a singularity?
