This is huge, those flares are associated with hurricanes. 2017 was a big year for very strong hurricanes we had a lot of Earth facing flares from the sun. The flares are high energy proton streams and they interact with our atmosphere and magnetic field.

Damn that's cool, so much stuff happening on what seems to be a bright ball to us. I looked it up, the sun rotates about every month.

Lunar cycle, that's the crazy part. The moon's face is still relative to us, and the sun spins on its axis once every phase cycle of the moon. So from full moon to full moon = 1 sun rotation.
