If the DESIGNERS were COMPETENT, there are MUCH more VERIFIABLE stats and counts and whatnot that capture ENTIRELY what was GOING ON, STORED in a database associated WITH that PARTICULAR excecution of the job (or files IF primitive (NOT likely)). Hell, an experiences developer has a tried and true BOILER PLATE set of USEFUL control counts and summaries that goes in (WITH little effort) for EVERY program he writes).
