I don't trust any EV. Not unless you have the absolute ability to remove anything that sends data out of the vehicle. That would be the only way I would trust being in one. Also any receivers transmitters or such devices would need removed. Not just deactivated. As long as any one other than myself has the ability to shut the engine off, to tell my car where to go, or can spy on me in any way, then I would not choose to have one.
There used to be kit EVs that were really cool, you could get them in unusual body styles and whatnot - there was one for sale here that looked like an old roadster that I almost considered.
Of course, these were old-school electrics with lead-acid powerplants, you got maybe 60 miles from a charge. Still...if I could get something with a 100 mile range for a cheap runabout (and I mean a couple thousand) I'd do it. That won't happen because every faggot out there can't live without AC and power locks and power windows and bluetooth and a vibrating cock in the seat so they can get shitdick while they drive, and a faglet on the dash because they can't tune the radio without pressing 50 buttons because a knob offends their sexuality or something.
Quite a few people in my neck of the woods use fancy golf carts to get around their local areas. I know one family in which the mother couldn't stop drinking and driving, so the husband bought her a golf cart and she goes around in their locality doing just about everything anyone would do with a car (sober). It's obviously embarrassing for her, but it works. It's actually not a bad idea and in the long run (very long run) it will save money.
I have often thought about a somewhat apocalyptic scenario (maybe just society breaking down) and what sort of vehicle I'd want to have). Honestly, I think the answer is a small, semi-off road electric vehicle. Electrics are simpler and have fewer moving parts and you can charge them with some solar panels. If anyone has any better ideas, I'm willing to listen.
But as an every day replacement for a gas vehicle? Haha hell no.
running on lithium batteries? like the ones in those hot new e-bikes? nah I think I'll pass not gonna charge one of them in MY garage...
Pretty sure the golf carts are lead-acid.
And really, while the lithium batteries are dangerous, there sure are a lot of them out there which aren't exploding. I mean, fair is fair. I'm not a fan and wouldn't want one, but there are a ton of them.
There's a small EV made in China called the Seagull. 10k cost, 200 mile range. Amazing second car as a commuter, assuming you're not worried about snow, ice, etc. I could definitely see myself getting a second car as an EV if it was that inexpensive. Granted, it's chinese, so it's just as liable to burst into flames, but I'd still be interested to see how it faires in a few years
There's a reason China's BYD translates to "Burn Your Dick."
Built in china. Probably has reporting built in. I have looked at them but even then it seems useless other than a "errand" car. I know the USA wont let you build super low gas usage cars anymore because of stupid regs but a geo metro would get better mileage.
it seems useless other than a "errand" car.
In some places, that would be a plus. Downtown major cities, or places where you don't commute far. It's not a primary vehicle, but great as a secondary.
Your absolutely right about the telemetry though. That said, it's not like everyone else isn't doing it, too.
In places like that, it costs more to park than to own the car you drive in. Or, at least that is what they are trying to do. [edit] I should also mention that most people cannot afford a "second vehicle" especially if it is not a old gas veh. Just a thought.
Use as a short range commuter car would be a good idea, but the problem is still these cars are not "green" or "zero emission". The pollution used to make the batteries harms the environment long term and outside of hydro areas, most chargers use "dirty fossil fuels" to charge them.
