It used to be common practice. If someone lets you cut in front of their vehicle you show a little appreciation and throw a friendly wave as a thank you. People virtually never do this anymore, everyone has an entitlement or fuck you mentality. Little gestures like this go a long way in a society.

Guess it depends on where you are. In my town everyone waves at everyone, all the time. I was just laughing about this with a friend of mine the other day.
