There wouldn't be that much of a need for a state or government, to cop people... Religion, (christianity, to be clear) doesn't propose a new tech to remedy to mankind's plight, it doesn't try to find material solutions to moral problems, because that's what it states pretty clearly, that most of the problem with Man, and human societies in general, comes from the nature of man, from "his heart". (and it's bordering on fucking hopeless, according to the bible) Early christian were somehow anti statist. Somehow because, they don't oppose the state, directly (see roman 13), they however clearly state (no pun intended) that the state isn't salvation, it isn't god. A fancy way of saying it's not the ultimate authority, it's not the all in one solution... Because when the state turns ugly, it's when it tries (and eventually fails, as usual) to rule over everything and anything.... See north korea, soviet union... If early christian ended up, doing just that, it's because there was obviously a recurrent problem... With men, making a state... Collapsing ultimately over and over again... If they established a direct connection between god and man, it's because there was a problem with intermediaries... The priest class for instance, but not only... ... Now that's how I see things, for what it's worth... And I'm only talking about christianity, as intended, not as what it became later on. If you don't see what I mean ask yourself if jesus would subscribe to any known christian denomination these days...
