They're referring to the Younger Dryas period. It's been suspected for a little while now that Noah's flood was caused by a comet impacting Greenland. The flood didn't just kill off the mammoths either. It killed nearly all large mammals. The only ones that survived lived in Africa and the Middle East. They were likely the ones Noah was able to get on the arc.
