"Glucosamine interferes with one of the enzymes used in glycolysis, or the breakdown of glucose into lactate or pyruvate. So now the mitochondria have to try to burn other sources of energy instead, including fat and some amino acids. What glucosamine essentially does is mimic a low carb diet, because the cell is forced to activate the mitochondria to survive. It has to produce its ATP from mitochondrial metabolism, which will produce free radicals that then act as signals to the rest of the cell."
Where does the unused glucose go? Floats around in the bloodstream increasing blood sugar levels? Gets stored as fat?
Seems like a crutch for people who aren't already on keto.
In fact, researchers have found it can extend lifespan as much as 20%
I wonder how it compares with keto.
I think it's similar to keto in terms of low carb, calorie restriction. But I've never read that Keto triggers mitohormesis, which is key to strengthening the mitochondria.
Edit: Yes, this study says Keto does trigger hormesis. I haven't found a direct comparison between the two however.
You might not want to live an extra 20% lol. An extra 5th of life…that’s a big claim. I’d be skeptical of anything making that claim
Think of all the (((booster shots))) you'll be forced to take.
In your ass
😆
I like the video with the grandma https://youtu.be/OAUn3A4QtaI Who even wants to live that long. My grandmas almost 80 and my grandpa tells me he think she’s ready to die now
It's not so much as gaining longevity for it's own sake, but more how active and robust the longevity will be. Mitochondria are the powerhouse of cellular function and can be manipulated and increased with dietary choices and physical activity. Diet and exercise, package deal. Who'da thunk.
Under quote over deliver its a sales tactic.
I don’t believe people in message boards anymore since Reddit convinced me that Kratom wasn’t addicting back when the fda was going to make it illegal. Now I’m physically addicted
Look up calorie restriction diets. There's good evidence that they offer life extension of about as much. The mechanism is likely similar--that of hormesis.
