Losing your taste and smell is subjective. There is no way for someone to tell that you really have lost your taste. It is also caused by a variety of conditions (mayoclinic.org) and was a known symptom well before 2020….. which means it’s not distinctive.

Finally, most “Covid cases” are asymptomatic. (cebm.net). So that symptom is not “almost always present.”

No doctor can tell you you’ve lost your sense of taste. No doctor can tell you you’ve not lost your sense of taste. It’s subjective, and bullshit.

Loss of taste or smell (or it being warped) is a normal symptom with pretty much any respiratory disease due to mucus buildup in your sinuses. I know I've had it when I've had a bad cold in the past.

Are you retarded?

I don't need a doctor to tell me I lost my sense of taste. When I bit into an otherwise delicious burger, it was devoid of taste. That's the test. That's all it takes.

I think you don't understand the comment you were responding to...
