This guy's work on regenerative agriculture is amazing, and triggers the hell out of the sort of leftist academic vegan types.

Have you heard of Richard Perkins? He has a YouTube channel and is doing some pretty amazing work on regenerative agriculture.

University labs are hyper focused on publishing papers because that's how they are judged when it comes to getting grants and funding. They'll try to publish anything, no matter how mundane. And they'll reference dozens of other papers when they publish also. It's inconceivable to PhD graduates that someone would have a scientific breakthrough and not publish it.

But this guy goes too far the other direction. Publishing work so that it can be reviewed and (more importantly) reproduced is an important step to scientific progress. Otherwise, how does anyone know about this fringe science he talks about? I get that many of the science journals are crap, but there are other ways to get scientific results published.

I see this as a larger view on the problem that is being seen of children through college being taught that knowledge comes from elsewhere and they must see what authorities think before they can think about it. School used to be a place that taught base knowledge and then prepared the mind to be able to think and question and resolve their own answers.

So much research is done by tiny hyper focused incremental verification papers and studies (and they get funding based on that) versus pure research that is become very rare. Pure research is self or group stretching out their understanding of things, looking for unseen things. By its nature not peer reviewed,

My favorite story on this was the PARC, pall alto research center. They literally forgot about these guys, kept paying them, let them go rogue and that’s literally the giant leapfrog that created the entire computer and information technology economy we have now. Unbridled, pure research. Perhaps the most lucrative research project ever in the history of man.

The course of mankind has been improved and changed by enlightened and gifted individuals countless times doing research on their own, usually against the existing paradigm of thinking.

In the software world; you'll encounter code that doesn't work, but can't be fixed because it would mean breaking compliance from some textbook or coding standard.
