I had a gut feeling about this.....

But in all seriousness, it's true. And your gut bacteria "talk" to your guts. They release chemicals that your gut picks up, so if your gut flora is all fucked up, you'll crave shit foods (sugar and high fat). That is your gut bacteria effectively requesting it.

That is correct, your body responds to chemical messages from bacteria in your gut. Yeast can wreck your life. I’m not sure if this post is a joke, just going to put this out there:

Medical sciences have been aware of the vagus nerve, the direct connection between brain and stomach, for a long time. Possibly back to antiquity?

Is there a connection between food intake and peasantry in the middle ages

I would think so, at that time I assume most lived on oats. I’m not sure if eating the natural food at the time would lead to a greater chemical imbalance than eating hamburgers every day though. They likely didn’t eat enough protein to fight back.
