Haha just reminded me of being afraid of acid rain as a kid in the late 80s. If we were playing outside and it started to rain “run! The rain could be acid”. Definitely something I got from either school or tv and not parents

Acid rain did exist in localized areas near extremely polluted cities in the us. When rain passed through active (SO2)smog it would become slightly more acidic then usual. Rain water is naturally slightly acidic. It was bad for plants in those areas and harmless to people. The auto industry claimed it caused issues with paint, but that was actually the new water based paint being poor quality.
