Once I sided with a crow over 2 other, obviously trying to kill it
And to my surprise, some sort of dialogue started between me and one of the attacking crow while the second one stepped away. The crow jumped on the top of a car to face me, and started to spread and fold its wing, standing there, making its crow noise, obviously not scared shitless like any other bird would be while facing a rather hostile human. It acted like what they were doing was legit and necessary.. At least that's how I started to feel about it after the initial surprise. Like I was siding with the wrong crow for the wrong reason. I stood my ground and after a while that crow finally started to leave the place, after a couple of failed attempts at finishing the lame crow I was siding with. It didn't rush to leave, it was more of a "Ok then... I'll get back at him later... Anyway... Flap-flap-flap (crow flying away)..."
In hindsight I think the two crows were chasing the third because he was sick, and one of their "crow rules" is to kill the sick ones before it spreads to the rest of them or something
Definitely not a bunch of retarded birds, they can handle fear, while some like the sparrow or the pigeon barely can and systematically fly away for whatever reason, including the sight of their own shadow
Crows are as (or more for modern ones) intelligent as a young child, and have a very distinct social order. They'll be your friend and bring you shiny stuff if you keep them fed.
The crows aren't scared of you because they know they can fly away and you can't come after them. That, to me, shows they have some sort of reasoning capability. They're also assholes.
