My Shepsky rescue did the same. I stopped at a PetSmart on the way home and got her a bed. When I put it on the back seat she got so excited, she let her guard down alot as that bed for her was a bonding experience.

Every shelter dog I've had immediately responded to their first bed. Most shelters use kuranda style beds, so when a dog gets its own fluffy padded bed it is a whole new experience for them.
