Some dogs are "runners" and there is nothing you can do about it. Some dogs are just stupid, and again there is nothing you can do about it. I talked at length with a guy that has been a our local dog pound for 20 years, and he says that realistically only about 25% of the dogs he brings in are worth saving... the rest are mental cases.

I have had a number of 'runners' in my life. We jokingly refer to them as "explorers" instead.
