It seems that God is very flashy. Wants everything to be meticulous with his Temple and his priests. But then Jesus during his ministry was pretty much walking around in street clothes from what I gathered and living very simply. What's with the change?

I'm still more or less in the beginning. They're now narrating what Aaron should be wearing as a temple priest. I still can't believe God was this meticulous. And now that explains why all the priests in the Catholic church run around wearing pretty much gold plating hanging off their bodies. I guess someone didn't get the memo from Jesus.

I'm gonna piss a lot of Catholic poalers off, but the issue with the Catholic Church is it attempted to incorporate pagan practices into a Christian mindset. I will never say the rank and file Catholic isn't saved. Faith in Jesus and trust in his sacrifice is all that is said is needed for salvation. But the Catholic Church goes way further with a lot of practices that are not laid out, worship of non-God dieties (even if they won't admit it's worship, the rosary prayer to Mary says otherwise), and need for useless priests which are no longer required for our intercession. I do think the meditation prayers, focused interflection, and adherence to tradition are all great things but I also don't feel it's the best way to worship our Lord.

Actually, I don't think many mainstream denominations do, anymore. But most people are too daunted or stupid to read their Bible and learn for themselves. Worse still, you have people like the KJV crowd who think that a singular translation of the Bible is inspired, but it also stops a great many people from diving deep into the meat of the text because the language is too archaic

My father and I had a discussion about why in the Catholic faith there's so many saints and prayers to Mary and not just directly to Jesus. He remarked that some people are too afraid to speak to Jesus, to speak to God, so they ask holy people to do it for them. Now I don't understand why because Jesus loves us and why would he not want us to talk to him directly. I don't think we should fear God I think we need to love him absolutely. And it's hard but he gives us the tools to do that via his teachings. I like to listen to The Sermon on the Mount, I don't understand some of its meaning but I get the general gist of it. And it's helped me through a lot of trying situations.

The sermon on the mount is similar to the OT commandments. It gives the plan for being a good Christian by showing what God's standards are. Way over and above anything we can do. In that vein you can see that beyond faith and trust, Christ shows that he does want us to attempt to adhere to the law, even if we cannot follow it perfectly. It's still a good roadmap on how to live well and make life good for everyone. If society would fall back on that, you'd see a lot less of the issues that we currently face.
