I hope this is recorded in the history books as the first moment white people began to refuse loosing physical ground in the race war.

Up until that moment it had all been defensive, building a wall, and simply holding the line, but Chattanooga was the first city where laws were enforced on black people or people in general in a fair way and then miraculously everything got better. Across the board crime went down, economy improved, budgets of local governments weren't bankrupted with social service expenditures, local school testing scores increased, happiness levels increased.

It crystalized what the path forward needed to be. The path was clearly dirty, difficult, and unfortunate. But at least the men who were left had a path to clear at all.
