From what I can surmise, she's a power hungry loose cannon with a long sheet of scandals. She was making the news and antagonizing her constituent. They saw an opportunity and they wanted to use it to be able to pass new intrusive laws. It could have been believable that right-wingers would have hated her so much that they'd want to kill her. Something that can't be said for pretty much any other governor at any given time. Don't let a good crisis go to waste.
