I feel like study groups determine shit like this.

I'm sure they would love to call a covid mutation the "Omega" mutation but maybe such heavy handed emphasis has the opposite effect on instilling fear. Maybe subtly it breaks the spell. Or when people start dying in mass from the experimental drug in their veins, that's when they'll use "The Omega Strain".

I hate humanity.

I do like delta though for mathematical descriptions of things. Hence why I believe their choice of variant naming coincides with a ton of psychological factors. PHD grads who use any form of displacement in their work can claim superiority in using the word delta, leading to even more fervent virtue signaling.
