The country is gone. Fight like hell to save yourself and the people you decide it's worth it to try and save.
Every vet I know (myself included) feels this way. It doesn't have to be this way. This is not the way things were supposed to be. We were lied to. About everything. We've seen the best efforts and lives of the finest people we will ever know pissed away by willfully non-competent, sociopathic, narcissistic, moral degenerates we wouldn't trust to run a lemonade stand without supervision.
While the warriors were away, the inmates took over the asylum.
If our grandfathers had known then what we know now, they never would have gone. Nobody would have. The military tradition in my family, in this country, goes back to 1750, before it was a country, even before the French and Indian War. Every generation has served. We weren't always good at it, but we always showed up. Until now. For the first time in 272 years, if they call, no one in my family will go. Not if I have anything to say about it.
Do you know why the Roman empire fell? It's not complicated. It was doomed when the average Roman citizen looked around at the state of his nation, and each one made the individual decision that there was nothing left worth risking his life to defend. Now look at the DOD's manpower and recruiting numbers. It's all happening again. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/military-struggling-find-troops-fewer-young-americans-serve/story?id=86067103
So, within in our own lives, we must do what our kind have always done.
Be strong. You are not alone. Stand your ground. Hold the line. Trust the man on your left and right. Because your entire world, and everything most important to you in it, will be reduced to the span of your own two arms.
Be prepared to fight for every inch of ground, and if necessary, to trade your life to buy time so those behind you can save whatever is left that can be saved. Evil likes soft targets. So the more prepared you are spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically, the less like it will be necessary.
“For amen, I say unto you, that if you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you may say to this mountain, 'Move from here', and it will move, and nothing will be difficult for you”. - Matthew 17:20
“The moral is to the physical as ten to one.” - Napoléon Bonaparte
