Talking to a bartender just now and she was saying how hard it is for her to get approved for a rental house. I ask why is that, didn't no tax on tips go through? She says yes, but if I claim them then I'll lose my medicaid. Mfw when I realize every server and bartender in this country is on medicaid.

Servers/Bartenders are typically in the demographic that gets fucked hard on healthcare if they do declare their tips.

Bars and restaurants typically do not provide health insurance, but if you declare your tips, you will be making slightly too much to qualify for Medicaid, and you are in the awkward position where you would actually be financially better off if you were making less money.

The system is fucked, I agree.

But in the grand scheme of things, out of everything that is wrong with our country right now, servers and bartenders cheating on their taxes to qualify for shitty healthcare wouldn't even make my top 100 list.

Excellent comment

There are many issues which create barriers in the healthcare industry. Those need to be solved. This instance is an example of unintended consequences. Retail isn't any better and they can't claim this discount code.

Idk, I'm just over here paying for my healthcare....

It is one of those situations where I think all the interests and perverse incentives are so deeply ingrained in the structure of it all, there is no possible way we can effectively legislate/vote our way out of it; I think the entire system needs to be blown up and built anew.

You could also apply my previous statement to every single part of the US Federal Government.

Accelerationism more and more looks like a viable option.

Just thinking we could find a billion or so wasted on daycare and learing.

My heathscare is "So you're going to die..."

It is free, so there is that bonus.

If she is getting CASH tips she isn't declaring them anyway. I have never known a single person that has actually declared their tips if they were not required (I.E. not cash).

Yes.

However since the cash tips are no longer taxable she can claim them. She isn't doing that because she would lose her welfare healthcare.

The system is fucked all the way down. I venture to say we could actually have a "minimal free healthcare" if we were not allowing illegals to get ANYTHING from us and we started putting all of the scammers fucking our country in jail for the rest of their lives.

Its now starting to look like a MINIMUM of the yearly US budget is entirely fraud. Not that it should be so shocking...

The fraud is crazy!

It would be amazing if we could afford to take care of everyone, but being 38 TRILLION dollars in debt! Is Wild.....

Deportation with no chance of return or helicopter rides are cheaper.

Yeah and it's the shittiest healthcare on the planet. Majority doctors won't take medicaid patients because it generally never pays and when it does, it's like less than 55 cents/usd.

You often end up getting care from nurse practitioners or foreign docs that are literally dangerous. OTOH, you can get mammograms, stuff like that through charity clinics and some hospitals.
