Same with my parents but my dad died ten years ago, he made my older siblings promise him they’d stop in everyday and check on my mom and they said they would.
Then came the we can’t do that, we’re to busy, you just sold your house and can stay here so someone’s here during the evening and nights, we’ll remodel the entire upstairs and add a bathroom, I’ve never seen them complete a project so fast in my life lol.
now I work from home and I’m around her 24/7. Saturdays was our night out away from her until covid hit.
And dementia cases are on the decline with blood pressure medications unless you’re talking about Alzheimer’s. Dementia is generally caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure in your 30’s to 50’s and with medications cases are dropping.
My dad wanted to sell this place so bad when I was growing up, it’s was on the outskirts of the burbs and was rural west of us. 5-7 acres(don’t want to dox myself) and then they built up all around for 5 miles past us. Now the old people have died off and it’s become high density housing on all the other old large lots.
He paid $28,000 for the 2,100 house and property in the 60’s and only wanted 500,000 but wouldn’t put it on the market.
Within a month of him passing a developer stopped by to see if we’d be willing to sell at 1.2 per acre lol. If he had been alive and healthy he would’ve been gone. Then market crashed a few months later while negotiating and now I just was offered 1.5 since you can add three more houses per acre so to a housing shortage.
That’s a lowball, 1.2 for 9 house but only 1.5 for 12 nope, I need at least 1.6 to match the old offer house per house and with the prices of houses and property values it’s closer to 2+.
But my mom won’t leave for the reasons I mentioned in my other post. If it gets worse by next winter which it will she’ll decide it’s time to go hopefully.
