If he has spongy jogging shoes, putting a lot of weight on them can cause them to compress in a weird direction. This in turn could could easily break an ankle or even a leg bone. I've seen some pretty average guys put 500+ lbs on a leg press machine for reps. Despite what the fatties might tell you, shoes aren't meant for that type of weight.
Yeah I don't do that. At most 3 plates a side on the leg press, just rep it out.
Leg press is for faggots and faggots. Real men squat the weight like humans were meant to.
I do squats first and finish it off with leg press to failure.
I agree in most cases, as squats work the majority of the body in ways that leg presses cannot.
However some people have back or knee issues that make squats a bit risky. Leg press also is good if you want to focus on specific muscles and muscle groups (bodybuilder types).
I used to leg press 500+ with sneakers. They just smush. No big deal.
